Initial management often includes stabilizing the patient's airway, breathing, and circulation. Advanced imaging, such as a CT scan or MRI, may be used to identify the cause of brain injury. Treatment may involve reducing intracranial pressure, using medications like diuretics, corticosteroids, or surgical intervention to relieve pressure or remove a hematoma. If the posturing is due to a reversible condition, addressing the underlying metabolic or infectious cause is critical. Rehabilitation, including physical therapy and occupational therapy, may be necessary for patients who survive with significant neurological deficits to regain function and improve their quality of life.
